Beta Reading

You have a finished draft – fantastic! Now you need a fresh perspective on your story. A beta reading identifies issues with pacing, character arc, writing style and/or plot-holes. It is the first step to ensuring that your manuscript is ready for publication. After a beta reading you will be supplied:

  • A summary detailing the basic elemental features of your story.
  • Chapter analyses that help you to map out and address any issues.
Proofreading

A proofread is your final line of defense before your work is publishable. It focuses on your work as a whole and ensures that throughout the previous editing processes nothing was missed. A proofread also checks that any changes made prior to the proofread did not cause disruption to your overall story/work. After proofreading you will be supplied with:

  • A summary of the basic elements of your manuscript
  • A Track-Changed document detailing any changes.
Copy Editing

Copy editing focuses on editing in a line-by-line manner. An editor will read each line of the manuscript, suggesting line, word, or occasionally paragraph adjustments. This will not typically involve comments on the overall manuscript structure, but if anything significant is noted, this may be brought up.

  • A document containing changes made using Track Changes.

A guide on how to accept/reject these changes can be found on the Writer’s Resources Page.

Structural Edit

Structural editing focuses on similar issues to the beta reading above, however, the feedback will be much more detailed and narrow. In addition to the chapter analyses and summary, you will be supplied with:

  • A document containing changes made using Track Changes.

A guide on how to accept/reject these changes can be found on the Writer’s Resources Page.
